Rehabilitation Standards Committee

The ASIA Rehabilitation Standards Committee, a dedicated and dynamic group of clinicians, is unwavering in its commitment to enhancing the care and quality of life for individuals with spinal cord injury and disorders (SCI/D). Their approach, centered on interdisciplinary collaboration and patient-centricity, sets them apart.

  • Updating consumer guidelines for durable medical equipment (DME) and creating an SCI Traveler Guide demonstrates their commitment to empowering individuals with SCI/D and ensuring access to necessary resources and information.
  • The upcoming manual on pregnancy, lactation, and parenting during and after SCI/D highlights the committee’s recognition of this population’s diverse needs and the importance of addressing holistic aspects of life beyond just medical treatment.
  • The committee’s ASIA E-Learning Center module on Upper Extremity (UE) management is a valuable initiative. Comprehensive care for UE function is critical for maximizing independence and quality of life for individuals with SCI/D. This module will likely serve as a valuable resource for healthcare professionals involved in the continuum of care for patients with SCI/D.Overall, the committee’s ongoing efforts to provide education, resources, and guidelines reflect their dedication to advancing the field of SCI/D rehabilitation and ensuring the highest standards of care for individuals with these conditions.
