ASIA sadly announces the passing of Kim Ruff. For several years, Kim managed accreditation for ASIA meetings and online educational activities. More recently, Kim managed ASIA membership, meeting registration, and commercial support. Kim also worked for the STEEL Assembly and TSCIR. Kim was a tireless team member who brought enthusiasm to everything and everyone. Kim’s obituary is online here.

Congratulations to the 2024 ASIA Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient: Armin Curt, MD, FRCPC. Dr. Curt is Chief and Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Centre at Balgrist University Hospital. For the first time, the same individual was nominated and chosen as the Sell Lecturer and the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Dr. Curt will present the Sell Lecture and be presented with the ASIA Lifetime Achienement Award on the first full day of the 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting,

Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 Craig H. Neilsen Foundation Allied Health Professional Research Award of ASIA. This award is to encourage clinicians with an interest in research (but limited experience in it, thus far) to be mentored by an experienced researcher. The clinician develops a study – from the proposal stage, through completion.

ASIA Members are encouraged to nominate candidates for the 2024 FASIA award. Fellowship in the American Spinal Injury Association (FASIA) is bestowed by the Board of Directors in recognition of distinguished accomplishments in spinal cord injury research, clinical practice, education, and advocacy, and for a longstanding active membership of service to the society. Submit your FASIA nomination no later than midnight on September 15, 2023.
