Qualifications for Members
Member: The qualifications for Member include:
- An individual recognized and acknowledged for contributions to the field of spinal cord care, who has completed training in their field of specialty.
- An individual trained and working in a health related profession that has active professional engagement in clinical practice, research, teaching or administration in the field of spinal cord care. (e.g., MD, DO, MD-PhD, PhD, Psych)
Member: The qualifications for Member include:
- An individual recognized and acknowledged for contributions to the field of spinal cord care, who has completed training in their field of specialty.
- An individual trained and working in a health related profession that has active professional engagement in clinical practice, research, teaching or administration in the field of spinal cord care. (Nursing, PT, OT, SLP, SW, MBBS, ACP, CTRS, KT)
Affiliate Member: The qualifications for Affiliate Member include:
- An individual with an interest in the field who does not satisfy the criteria for Full Member. (Industry, Law, Family)
- The individual should demonstrate a commitment and interest in the spinal cord injury population and issues related to care, treatment and/or research.
Trainee Member: The qualifications for Trainee Member include:
- An individual training in a health related profession with an interest in the spinal cord injury population who has a LOS from their program director or chairman including the length of their training period. Term: 3-5 years determined by training period. (student, postdoctoral scholar, resident, fellow)
Latin America Member: The qualifications for Latin America Member:
- Same as regular member – An individual trained and working in a health related profession that has active professional engagement in clinical practice, research, teaching or administration in the field of spinal cord care. (Nursing, PT, OT, SLP, SW, MBBS, ACP, CTRS, KT)
- Employer/Institution must be in Latin America
Emeritus Member: The qualifications for Emeritus Member include:
- An active member (Member or Affiliate Member) who has achieved retirement status.
- The individual must make a request for change in his/her status to the Membership Committee.
- The Emeritus Member must request continuation of this status every two (2) years. (free)
Honorary Member: The qualifications for Honorary Member include:
- The individual must not be a member of ASIA in any capacity.
- The individual must have given distinguished service or been a distinguished contributor to the field of spinal cord injury.
- A nomination for honorary membership may come from any member and will be reviewed by the chair of the Membership Committee.
- Final approval for honorary membership is determined by the Board of Directors.
