Asterias Goes Hollywood
If you are a fan of the television show Grey’s Anatomy, you may have spotted someone familiar in a recent episode.
ASIA member Ed Wirth and Asterias Biotherapeutics were featured in the April 18 medical drama on ABC television. The AST syringe positioning device (SPD) was featured in the episode. Doctors on the show used the device to treat a cervical SCI patient and injected stem cells into the cord.
If you caught the episode, you may have also been familiar with a male nurse in the SCI scenes. Dr. Wirth provided consulting on the SPD and set up. If you missed the episode, you can catch it online on ABC.
Dr. Wirth describes the filming of Grey’s Anatomy as an interesting and enjoyable experience. He says it was amazing to see how efficient they are with filming and how many different shots they take for each scene.
