The 39th Annual Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems OT/PT Leadership Forum was held in Philadelphia this past fall. Magee Rehabilitation Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, partners in the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley Model System of SCI Care were pleased to host the event, as well as share a bit of the ‘City of Brotherly Love.’ Representatives from former and current federally-designated SCI Model System Centers gathered from across the country for this annual conference. This event included a multi-day agenda of sharing and discussions on current research, program design, therapeutic treatments, outcome measurement, assistive technology, tricks of the trade, a vendor expo, tours of Magee and more. Participants were able to observe the city skyline from a reception on the rooftop of Magee’s new Creative Therapy Center and Healing Gardens, and provided with a keynote address from a former patient with tetraplegia and her husband, who now have a business providing affordable Smart Technology in the homes of persons with disabilities. No meeting would be complete without an open air guided city bus tour of the historic landmarks of the grand old city and a banquet at the Mutter Museum. All agreed, it was an educational networking opportunity. We are fortunate to have allied health professionals so dedicated to the care and cure of those with spinal cord injuries/disorders.
