Got Wheels?

Many of us do have wheels, in the form of cars, buses or bikes to get to work, school, worship or recreation.  But if you are a wheelchair user, there are limits to how you can get around.  Fortunately, many stakeholders, including the National Registry of Rehabilitation Technology Suppliers, the National Coalition for Assistive and Rehab Technology, United Spinal Association, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and others, were able to claim victory after many years and months of Congressional and federal advocacy.  In June, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) lifted the restriction on complex power wheelchair components and back and seat cushions from CMS bidding program. The competitive bidding program had set lower payments and determined which providers could furnish CRT products in which areas, thus limiting the options and choice of products for people with significant disabilities for needed complex power components.

However, more help is needed.  Even though access to power CRT has been fixed, access to manual CRT remains critical for wheelchair users with customized needs.  We need your support of HR 3730 to protect access to manual CRT.  Click here to visit the NRRTS action center to contact your Member of Congress about manual CRT and bill HR 3730 today.
